Kathy's Story

Kathy Moss currently functions as the Mooresville Christian Mission’s Reception Scheduling Coordinator. Our clients are always greeted with a friendly smile and welcoming heart because of the care she takes in training and placing our volunteers:

“My volunteer days at the Mission began almost 2 years ago. As a relatively recent retiree, I was looking for volunteer opportunities in the Mooresville area, and visited the Christian Mission through an outreach program offered by my church, Williamsons Chapel UMC. When I asked how I could serve best, I was encouraged to join the handful of volunteers answering the phones, in order to allow the case workers time to dedicate time to their crisis assistance duties.

During my first volunteer session, it became apparent that the Mission needed a lot more volunteers on the phones, so I returned to my church and sought recruits through the same women’s group. Since that initial team was put in place, those volunteers have spread their passion for helping others to their churches and friends. The duties have grown as the Mission’s needs have grown, and now we have a team of women greeting the clients, answering the phones, and assisting the crisis counselors. These volunteers dedicate anywhere from 2 – 20 hours per month, and I can safely say we all receive more gratification in serving than those hours represent.”

Suzanne's Story

"I first attended the Christian Mission through a community service effort my daughter was involved with through our church, St Therese. When I met Valerie, I was immediately inspired by her words of faith and inspiration. I, too, wanted to be involved in such a great cause on a regular basis. So that was the beginning of my volunteering...answering the phones in the old Mission, in the kitchen. The environment was simple but the cause was great.

Suzanne DewoskyOver the past year and a half, the time I spend at the Mission has become more meaningful to me. I have formed friendships with the staff, the volunteers and the clients. I could have never imagined that looking for a way to offer my time and talents could be retuned to me tenfold. I have never left the Mission feeling anything more than inspired by others and their faith. It is such a welcoming environment which provides opportunities for all ages and abilities to get involved. I know that the time I spend there is very much appreciated by the staff at the Mission, but I hope they know how much I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of their cause.

I find it interesting that volunteering often seems to focus more on the time people GIVE, but for me at the Mission, it is also about the opportunity to practice my Christian faith and open myself to RECEIVE the gifts others bestow upon me through those experiences. These special days spent volunteering have left a long lasting impression on me."
